March 2008 Newsletter from dannylipford.com
Welcome!
Even in the South where I live, March is still a bit chilly for outdoor projects. My advice: stay indoors and update the dreariest room in your house. A fresh coat of paint can change the feel of a room completely. Another way to dress up a room is to add crown molding, install wainscoting, or just change out the light fixture and switch plates.
But the arrival of March means spring is right around the corner! And to help the green thumb in your household, we’re launching a special Lawn and Garden section on our website dannylipford.com on March 20th with videos, articles and other useful information. So check back with us in a few weeks.
Here's to your best home!

Don't Try This at Home
Many refinishers, strippers and solvents contain chemicals that can be hazardous. Always read the warnings on the label. If a label says to use the product with adequate ventilation, work outdoors or in a well-ventilated room. In general, do not use these products near flame or fire and be sure to extinguish nearby pilot lights. Don’t forget, the fumes of flammable materials are also flammable.
Don’t Get Gouged on Gasoline
With gas prices fluctuating daily, it’s hard to know if you’re getting a good deal or being ripped off when you stop to fill your tank. Websites like GasBuddy.com and GasPriceWatch.com take the mystery out of shopping for fuel by listing the prices stations in your area are charging. Since the information is submitted by consumers, check to see which site has the most current listings for your area. Better yet, sign up and start reporting prices yourself!

Goodbye Germs
Tired of throwing away sponges when they sour? Try microwaving them instead. According to a study in the Journal of Environmental Health, zapping sponges and plastic scrubbing pads on high for two minutes in the microwave kills 99% of germs, including nasty ones like E. coli. Be sure they are wet, since dry sponges can catch fire.
