Welcome!
Green living is one of the biggest home trends in the country. This month, my show Today's Homeowner® is exploring the phenomenon in our two-part series "Going Green". In this series, we travel across the country and gather insights from prominent environmentalists, including actor Ed Begley, Jr., and interview green experts in Chicago. Plus, we visit a cutting-edge green community in San Diego.
But you don't have to live in a special community to make a difference. There are lots of little things you can do in your existing home to be more environmentally-friendly. Lowering your thermostat on your hot water heater, installing a low-flow showerhead, and plain old recycling will all have a positive impact on the environment.
Here's to your best home!

Get on Board the Recycle Cycle
It's not just plastic and paper anymore. Here's what you need to know about recycling.
From high-tech gadgets to simple changes, Danny takes a look at some new ways to make your home green.
Here are a few green products worth considering for your home.
Check out our website's special green section with green tips and information about the show.
Don't Try This at Home
During cold snaps, it's not uncommon to have to contend with frozen pipes. If your pipes are simply frozen (bad enough) but haven't burst (worse), you can thaw them with a heat gun or blow dryer. However, don't use a blow torch or propane heater. The open flame is an obvious fire hazard and the heater can expose you to lethal carbon monoxide.
Finding a Green Builder
Unsure about how to go about finding a qualified builder or architect in your area? Check out the LEED Accredited Professional Directory at the website of the Green Building Certification Institute. The online database is searchable by city or state and contains the names of those who have completed training in green building techniques developed by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Baking Soda and Bugs
A recent article from This Old House magazine featured 10 Things You Can Do With Baking Soda. The list included: spot cleaning a rug, removing tape residue and zapping roaches. When you combine baking soda with sugar, the sugar attracts the bugs and the soda kills them.
